SEA TURTLE CONSERVATION
Since 1993, under a permit issued by the government, the Akumal Ecological Center (CEA) has worked on the protection, conservation, and research of sea turtles. This permit allows us to work on four different beaches within the Akumal area.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

CEA supports an ongoing educational program to teach residents to preserve and respect our environment in local schools and offers various outreach activities within the community.

TOURISM IMPACTS STUDIES

The bays that surround Akumal are unique places and give us the opportunity to find sea turtles throughout the year, and this has led to incredible growth in tourism. Since 2013, the number of visitors has tripled, often affecting the health of vulnerable marine ecosystems.
