In the evening on Thursday, November 10, security from various properties received an alert about possible fishing or spearfishing activities take place in Akumal Bay. Three individuals were seen with their bags of what looked like their catch, running towards the empty bungalows (at the edge of Half Moon Bay).
The authorities were called and the suspects were caught in front of the El Pueblito grocery store and have been identified as young adults from the pueblo. Their bags of catch were confiscated and they were taken away by the municipal police. The catch included small reef fish and lobster.
This is a matter for CONAPESCA (Comision Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca) since the area in which the young adults were fishing is within the declared Fish Refuge Zone.
