Headquarters: Akumal.
The sea turtle festival has been celebrated for 19 years at the end of the nesting season in October each year.
In Mexico, six of the seven species of turtles in the world arrive each year along its coasts, to the state of Quintana Roo 4 species of sea turtles arrive, so being a protected species there are turtle camps for protection and conservation of this biological wealth that enhances the beauty of the coral reefs and the turquoise sea that bathes the coasts of the state.
The Sea Turtle Festival was born as a tribute to all the people who dedicate long hours of work on the beaches but with the reward of seeing in each hatching the hope that the sea turtles will stop being in danger of extinction in a future time, the festival belongs to the municipality of Tulum, which has had three venues since its first version in 2003, the venues are Tulum, Akumal, and Xcacel.
Akumal Turtle Guardians Team, and the camp coordinator, Hidrobiól. Claudia Leon.
It is a party where the general public is invited, but the target audience will always be children and young people who in the future will have the pertinent information to continue with the protection and conservation of some of the living dinosaurs. These times of pandemic with the COVID 19 virus, has forced us to go from face to face to virtuality, but today it gives us a truce and we were able to receive the public at our Akumal headquarters with an attendance limit, but this virus will never leave us without it courage and courage to carry out this beautiful celebration where the main task is to show the whole world that together we do more.
We hope that attendees have enjoyed the activities, games, and plays that were lovingly prepared by CEA staff and volunteers.
We want to give special thanks to the Hekab Be library for their invaluable support and performance of the play "How wonderful it is to live at the bottom of the sea", as well as the Guardians of the Akumal turtles, for their presentation "The Akumalita turtle and good environmental practices ”.
