Why join the VT group to protect turtles? What makes it special?

It took my attention when I saw the people on a green t-shirt, wonder what they doing, I ask somebody about it, and when they told me, I say, I want to do that, I want to help to protect the turtles, and here I am.

Meeting these wonderful people, and to see all the work they do morning and night for the turtles just for love and passion for the turtles makes it special. Is not easy all the time, it is fun and sad too, very dynamic, and yes committed.

What activity do you do? What is your role at CEA's sea turtle camp?

I do the morning walks to identify tracks a few days a week, some times I help at night walk for the observation on nesting mamas and hatchling release.

How important do you think the work of the VT is?

The work of the group is very important for the conservation of the turtles, special this year.

There are many different NGOs… what made you fall in love with this project?

I think the passion and love for the turtles.

When you come home after spending a morning helping nesting moms… what are you taking with you? What does it bring you on a personal level?

Wow! Hard to say, but I take the satisfaction to help to protect the turtles, it means a lot to me.

What qualities do you think it takes to volunteer in the association?

Love for the turtles, want to help, be compromised, just love what you do.

Do you remember your first day as a volunteer? How was your experience?

Yes, I remember, I was nervous, never done any kind of volunteer work, but when I met the group, they make me feel comfortable, I start filling the mama's beds, and recognize the track.

And how was your first contact with a turtle? What surprised you the most?

Oh! Was AWESOME, never seen a turtle before, for me was amazing, the mama was making her bed. Surprised me how they made her nest, so perfect, and when she laid her eggs.

What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering or not?

I would encourage to be part of this awesome work, that makes you be in contact with the turtles and the environment, and makes you love and appreciate nature.

What message would you like to share with the readers of this short review?

Respect and love the turtles, nature, follow the rules, it is easy.

Experiencias Voluntourist

Icela Barajas

¿qué te llevas a nivel personal?

¡Guauu!
